Reading about the explorer Magellan has crystalized the meaning of Flat and Global for me. I am taken back to my elementary school days when my teachers told us about efforts to not sail off the edge of the Earth, and efforts to sail around the globe. This is what Flat and Global really means to me. The real and historical venture to tie the planet together by its people. To provide commerce and travel to all parts of the planet. Until today, when we are connected by electronic transmission and complete years long journeys in a few seconds.
The Magellan line is just that historical time when it was proved the Earth is a globe and not a plate or disk. The historical event took place in 1519. I give this date, August 10, 1519, as the date when Flast changed to Global. The change is an eternal change. It is a change in how we give meaning to vocabulary, in all languages, to mathematical events, to historical moments, to personal moments. Above all, my flat earth theory is a theory of public health. It is a theory to describe how we appropriate authority in our personal lives. The flat earth theory allows us to appropriate meaning without inculcating all of the values meant there-in. Leadership can be heard and understood, nevertheless we can remain unchanged.
When Magellan completed his circumnavigation of the globe, just then we were allowed to appropriate the previous historical model of flat thinking as a model within a new method of thinking, a global model.
